YOUNG GUNS
ON THE WAY
UP
Saturday
27th January 2007
Wibsey 10 -
34 Yarnbury
IV
This game
against
Yarnbury was
always going
to be a
testing game
for the
young Wibsey
backs. What
they lack in
experience
they make up
for in
enthusiasm.
On several
occasions
Yarnbury
broke the
Wibsey
defence and
thought they
were home
free, but
excellent
scrambling defence
from the
young backs
brought them
down short
of the line.
Wibsey made
a few breaks
up the hill
at Beldon
Lane in the
first half,
led by Micky
Ball.
With the
hill in
their favour
for the
second half,
Wibsey came
out all guns
blazing and
crossed the
try line
early. The
forwards led
the way with
strong
running from
prop Stuart
Wilson, who
had energy
to burn as
Yarnbury
went to
passive
scrums.
Chris Paine
deserves
special
thanks from
the team, as
he stepped
up to take
on the
responsibility
of scrum
half, a
position
that he has
never played
up to this
game. He
linked up
well with
Fly Half
Scott Smith
and they
were able to
get the
backs in to
open space
on several
occasions.
The team is
going from
strength to
strength as
the season
has
progressed,
showing
improvement
every time
they take to
the field.
Top perfomer
for the
opposition
was Graham
Chambers!
